Frequently Asked Questions

I haven't seen the domain ".coop" before - is that new?

The "coop" domain is only available to businesses that are organized as a cooperative. In other words, you can't buy it, you have to be it. Our worker-owners govern our company. While our daily operations look like a "regular" business, there's more going on just under the surface. Together, we make decisions about workplace governance, annual budget, company direction, and strategy. We cultivate an ownership culture and value everyone's work equally. Our goal is to offer worker-owners job stability and career opportunities in publishing.

Are your picture books digitally printed?

Wild Swans Publishing Cooperative's books are printed using offset printing. For picture books, the artwork is as important as the story. The illustrator contemplates and encompasses the elements of the story in bringing forth a visual scene. As the publisher, we honor both the artist and children's developing aesthetic by being true to the original art which is best achieved via offset printing.

Where can I purchase your books?

We encourage you to support your local bookseller whether that's a bookstore downtown or a children's shop that offers books among other well-chosen items. A few local shops that have "Hiro's Hats" in stock in the SF bay area: Book Passage, Corte Madera CA, Sausalito Books by the Bay, Sausalito CA, Pegasus Books, Berkeley CA, Morning Tide Shop, Albany CA, and The Reading Bug, San Carlos CA. If your local shop doesn't stock a book that you would like to purchase, please let them know as they would be more than happy to special order it for you - and it often will arrive in 1-2 days.

You are also more than welcome to order directly here. We ship via USPS both domestically and internationally.
